Flushing Water Heater

Do I need to flush my Tankless Water Heater every year?

As an experienced and certified Rinnai plumber, I can say that a flushing water heater is recommended as a part of regular maintenance for tankless water heaters, but the frequency at which you should flush water tank can vary depending on variables like water quality and usage models. Some manufacturers suggest flushing water heater annually, while others might suggest doing it every six months or even less, depending on your water conditions.

The purpose of flushing water heater is to remove mineral buildup and debris that can build up inside the unit. Over time, this can reduce the radiator’s efficiency and lead to issues like decreased hot water output, reduced vitality, and even damage to the unit.

It is best to refer to the manufacturer’s rules in the owner’s manual for more specific information about how often to drain hot water heater. Depending on your neighborhood’s water conditions and usage designs, you need to consult with a professional and experienced plumber to figure out if it’s time to flush your tankless water heater. Many home warranties won’t cover the replacement of the water heater tank or tankless if the yearly flushing was not completed by the plumber.
